Apricot Chicken: 1 cup Apricot Preserves , 1 (8-ounce) bottle Catalina Dressing, 1 package Onion Soup Mix, 6 to 8 Chicken Breasts.

In a bowl, mix apricot preserves, dressing and soup mix. Place chicken breasts in a large, buttered baking dish and pour apricot mixture over chicken. (For a change of pace, use Russian dressing instead of Catalina.) Bake uncovered at 325* for 1 hour and 20 minutes. Serve over hot rice. Great served with asparagus and green salad.

FOL: The Friends of the Library met Sept. 12. Discussed was the upcoming Harvest Fest on Nov. 19. The Harvest Fest will have a Thanksgiving Basket for a family of eight along with other raffle items, bake sale-NLT (New Library Team) and a book sale by donations. Raffle items are needed. Contact Rhonda Wilks at 208-245-5117 for more information or raffle drop off instructions. The next FOL meeting will be Nov. 14 at the Tri-Community Library from 3:30 to 4:30 p.m.

Bingo: UpRiver Bingo Sept. 15 winners were Jim Hanson, Freda Albert, Tina Smith, Rona Lynch, David Groth, Kristie Hunter, Kris Vevoda, Michelle Bradley, Betty Jones, Patsy Wernecke and Rhonda Manley. Tina Smith won the “Hot Ball”. The “Super Blackout” in 56 numbers or less is up to $344.

Weight Club: Marie Burton was the Queen of the Week. The UpRiver Weight Club meets on Friday mornings at the Fernwood Senior Center from 8 to 9 a.m. New members are always welcome.

Birthday: Rhonda Wilks of Emida celebrated her 66th birthday with family and friends. Rhonda was born Sept. 17, 1956 at Geneva, NY.

UpRiver PTO: The officers for the UpRiver PTO are Cassie Jolliff, president; Jayce Gallagher, vice president; Megan Burch, treasurer and Sarah Lingo/Ashlee Robbins, secretaries.

New Staff: The UpRiver Elementary school new staff members are Chelsea Hosford- first grade teacher; Sara Scull-library aide; Heather Barker-music teacher and Brenda Owens-paraprofessional.

Pig Raffle: The Potlatch Deltic has donated a cut and wrapped freezer ready pig raised by a local 4-H member. The “Pig Raffle” also includes a freezer. Tickets are $5 each or five tickets for $20. Tickets are available at the office and by students. The drawing will be Oct. 3. Need not be present to win. The winner will need to make arrangements for pick up at the UpRiver School.

The UpRiver PTO will use the funds raised from the raffle to sponsor many events throughout the school year, such as the Halloween Carnival, craft fair, holiday shop and school assemblies as well as purchasing any extras the teachers and students may need.

School Breakfasts and Lunches: UpRiver Elementary breakfasts and lunches for Sept. 21-biscuit & gravy, sausage pizza and salad; Sept. 22-french toast sticks, spaghetti and garlic bread; Sept. 23-banana bread, hamburger with lettuce and pickles, Sept. 26-fruit and yogurt parfait, chicken strips with baked beans; Sept. 27-mini pancakes, tangerine chicken with chow mein noodles. All breakfast entrees include fruit, 100% fruit juice and milk. All lunch entrees include fruit, vegetable and milk. Breakfast is free to all students.

Senior Meals: Fernwood Senior meals for Sept. 22-brats & kraut, veggie of the day, soup/salad bar, cook’s choice dessert and beverage; Sept. 26-hungarian goulash over noodles, soup/salad bar, homemade whole wheat rolls, cherry cobbler and beverage.

Redwall Party: There will be a Redwall party at the Tri-Community Library Sept. 23 from 4 to 6 p.m. The Redwall series is written by Brian Jacques. Everyone can bring their favorite Fan Art to share, enjoy Redwall snacks and more.

Paint Pour: Paint Pour is Sept. 24 at the library from 3 to 5 p.m. Debra Hawkins will be the instructor. Everyone can pour their own one-of-a-kind piece of art. The sign-up sheet will be at the desk. Contact the library at 208-245-4883 for further information or to sign up.

Ladies’ Night: The UpRiver Ladies’ Night will be Sept. 25 at the UpRiver Community Center from 6:30 to 8:30 p.m. September’s theme is “Gel Candles & Jello Mold Creation”. An award will be given to the most “creative” jello mold. Provided will be glass and all the fixins for those that do not have a specific glass container or decorations to have inlayed in gel wax.

The adult only evening is filled with a great opportunity to make connections, find support and visit with other women who care. Contact Alli Huffman via face book or call 2008-245-6971 to RSVP.

3D Print: A 3D Print class will be Sept. 26 at the Tri-Community Library from 3:30 to 5:30 p.m.

Santa-Fernwood Sewer-Project: The Santa-Fernwood Sewer-Project will meet Sept. 27 at 5 p.m.

Santa Water and Sewer District: The Santa Water and Sewer District will meet Sept. 27 at 5:30 p.m. Both meetings will be held at the Santa-Fernwood District Office, 65290 Highway 3 South. Contact the office at 208-245-3554 for any questions.

Fit & Fall: Fit & Fall classes are on Wednesday and Friday mornings at the Fernwood Senior Center from 9 to 10 a.m. Open to men and women of all ages. Contact Cindy Newsom at 208-245-6843 for further details.
